Piet Mondrian (1872 - 1944) is best known as a pioneer of abstract art, although he only started experimenting in this style after moving to Paris around the age of forty. Previously, he mainly painted realistic scenes in which nature played a prominent role. The "Red Amaryllis with Blue Background" belongs to a private collection. Mondrian regularly painted flowers, such as chrysanthemums or amaryllis, often as a single flower at the center of the composition. Although the general idea is that Mondrian painted these flowers because of commercial demand, the exceptional quality of these works probably also testifies to the pleasure he derived from them.

A unique collection of products with an image is for sale in the Museum Webshop, where you can buy luxury art gifts, office supplies and other gifts. Such as a notebook, a scarf, a luxury pen or a refrigerator magnet with an image of Piet Mondriaan's Amaryllis.
