KMCL000214Albrecht Dürer (Nuremberg, May 21, 1471 - Nuremberg, April 6, 1528) was a German painter, draftsman, maker of woodcuts and copper engravings, art theorist and humanist from the Northern Renaissance. His contributions to the emerging art of printmaking, parallel to the development of printing, made him the most popular and influential Northern European artist of his time. Dürer's studio specialized in various printing techniques, with copper engraving in particular making large print runs possible.
Dürer is especially praised for his versatility. As a passionate traveler through Europe and Italy, he was not only looking for the artistic innovations of the Renaissance, but also for the beauty of natural phenomena, which he captured with exceptional attention. In addition to his mastery as a painter, he also excelled as an engraver and maker of woodcuts, in which the influence of the Gothic is clearly visible. Moreover, Dürer was also known as a geometer, which often gave his work an extra dimension.
'Hare' is a watercolor by the famous German painter Albrecht Dürer. Painted in 1502, the work is among his best-known nature studies and is recognized as a masterpiece of observational art, alongside his Large Piece of Peat from the following year. The image is almost photographically accurate, although commonly known as "Young Hare", the portrait is detailed enough to identify the hare as an adult
